[TAKEN) Wireless IO-Link

Title: Wireless IO-Link

Department: BU Anybus, Halmstad

Size: 2-3 students

Scope: Wireless communications and sensor technology

Description: There is an increasing interest in gathering more information from machines and systems in the industry. To do this different type of sensors are being used and installed on the plant floor and on machines as machine wearables. Today those sensors almost exclusively are wire sensors connected to some sort of control system. The pre-dominant protocol connecting wired sensors to industrial control systems is IO-Link. Recently the organization behind IO-Link published a version of the IO-Link protocol for wireless communication.

The goal of this thesis project is to develop a simple wireless IO-Link prototype using a wireless evaluation board. An investigation of possible solutions will be carried out as well as a study how wireless IO-Link works. A short study of possible IO-Link stacks is also included in the project. The thesis project also contains a practical part implementing an IO-Link stack and develop the lower IO-Link wireless layers on an evaluation board.

The project and scope can be adjusted to the size of the group and the participants.

Prerequisites:
Bachelor or master program within data engineering or embedded systems. Experience in embedded C programming.
